So after a fiasco with my current Huntin club I don't know that I will ever be apart of another club! However it was my first. But way too much bickering, politics, and just overall BS! Y'all that lease you own land any suggestions? Things you've learned over the years? I really want to lease 200 acres or so close to the house. I'd like to be able to sleep in my own bed before I hunt. I never would have thought that a club that has been established for 25 years would have so many problems in it! Truly blows my mind. And god forbid if you get hurt and try to get out.... Just blows my mind.

5 of us, all related by blood or marriage, lease 400 acres of woods that are full of deer.

What we do that works for us:
-follow the game laws
-everybody shoots what makes 'em happy

What we don't do that works for us:
-worry about what each other shoots

Rarely are there ever more than 3 there at one time and weeks go by with no hunters there so there is little pressure.
We've tried food plots in the past but there was no real reason to so we just hunt in the woods.
We go to hunt and relax, not to work so we keep it simple.

Prolly not a bad idea. Me and a buddy have decided we want to lease land to be able to go shoot in the summer, let our dogs play and hunt whenever we want to. And follow whatever guidelines we want to. He loves to shoot does and that's it. And I love to just be in the woods. But I'm a buck hunter more than anything

I gave up clubs years ago. I save my money for western/AK trips. Hunt publlic land to fill in the gaps.
Clubs were just one big Drama that I am way too old to deal with.

Duckiller, did you ever get to hunt the club you were in. I thought you had sold your membership before you got to hunt.

Nope never got to sell it or hunt it. I went out there did an un godly amount of work to help better the club and then they treat me like they have in the end. Overall I'm glad to be away from them. But not happy to be out $1,000 people are the one thing that will ruin your day that's for sure

I'm waiting on the "rest of the story"-post it up. Include names and inform the others on here who may get taken by the same club.

If he's still getting around like he was the day I met him about a month ago (with his hurt back), he probably can't move well enough to get in the woods much. I hope you're feeling better brother.

There are good ones and bad ones. You better do your home work before you get into a club. Try to get some names of former members and see why they are no longer in the club. Talk extensively with the president and current members (if possible) to see if everything adds up to what is being presented. And most of all make sure their rules and management practices line up with your preferences. If you do all of these things you should be able to find a good club that is a good fit. But I must admit, just like women, there are a bunch of clubs out there that you better run from before they get your money. Because in the long run some seem to want your money but they don't want to you to have any of the benefits...

I have to say I'm pretty spoiled by my situation. I've only been hunting for about 11 years and this "club" is all I've ever known. It is worth it to me to drive 6.5 hours each way to hunt 4-5 times per year with men I know and respect. I can't imagine trying to get along in a big club with a lot of different personalities.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! A friend of mine keeps trying to get me to join a club he's in that is run by a few fellows that act that way. They'd have to pay me to join it.

So was the problem you couldn't find anybody to take your spot or the club wouldn't allow you to transfer your membership? I can somewhat understand them not wanting to refund the money because the lease price/expenses are the same and somebody would have to eat it.

Hope your back heals up quickly. Back problems suck!

He said I'm not allowed by club rules yet there is nothing in the rules I still have them from when I joined 3 years ago. So he informs me Saturday morning not only am I not allowed to sell my membership but I'm not allowed to hunt either. So I'm done! Ill never join another club again! I don't understand how a group of people could conduct themselves this way. Not to mention I got my Arse chewed when I showed up a day after a work day to get some stuff from my camper (I had my wife drive me) and I leave and I get a scathing phone call from the president about how he an the rest of the club is pissed because if I'm we'll enough to come down an get my stuff out of the camper I'm we'll enough to work! Now to this point I had been to 3 work days already when only 2 are required and there are several members who hadn't even been to one. And I had gone and planted fields in beans and corn to help the overall betterment of the club and then this happens. It just blows my mind that a group of "men" can do this to people. It seems more like robbery than anything.

sounds like a bunch of A$$holes to me!

You need to name the club you are talking about so others dont go getting envolved with them and have problems too.

I'd have to take them to civil court on that one. Especially if I had followed the rules and met my obligations on the work days.

I had a buddy of mine in the same situation one time, he pleaded with them and got back in the club, then gut shot every deer he saw and brought a bunch of friends and just raped the place of game. I'm not recomending that, I am saying that is what he did. I thought it was funny. He also took dumps in the clubs shooting houses, hung up white trash bags around the food plots, and put ammonia in cans and placed them around the food plots of the board of directors in the club where they hunted.
