I was just wondering if anyone else had the experience my 16 yr. old son and I had yesterday on the opening weekend of bow season. My son has really taken an interest in archery and has worn out two targets this fall getting ready for his opportunity to take a deer with a bow.I have not bow hunted much in the last few years, especially on opening weekend. He has taken several with a rifle but this is first time he has wanted to bow hunt. We hunt in a small club close to the Bibb-Perry county line and have for several years with some close friends. We have some National forest and other private tracts surrounding us. We were the only ones hunting at our club yesterday and were in our stands as daylight was breaking. About 6:45 a high-powered rifle fires a single shot on property adjacent to where we are.. Ten minutes later another turns loose with 4 shots even closer. In the next hour and half we hear 5 more shots in different locations. It sounds like the opening of gun season. My son calls me on the radio and asks me, Isn't gun season a month away? No wonder deer have become nocturnal. Is this an isolated case or are others abiding by the game laws of this state as we do seeing and experiencing the same?

Sadly it isnt an isolated event. It seems that it happens around here too.

"Gun Season" is year round for the white trash living amongst us. Sadly, they reproduce at a much higher frequency than is desirable - much like armadillos, fire ants, and other non-productive inhabitants of the earth.

Could be rabbit hunters,or people sighting in their rifles.

The world needs more people holding deer in pictures, and less people holding cameras in front of mirrors.

There are no hogs in our area, sighting in at 6:45 am doubtful. High powered rifles sounds much different than shotguns

next to where I hunt you can hear anywhere from five gunshots to a 100, dont know whats going on over there. Last year was quiet as their house was taken out by the tornado(no one hurt) but they are back now rebuilding and they have already been shooting over there, heard 20 shots about three weeks ago, could be shooting hogs but there were no hogs over here two years ago. I know that during the 2009-2010 season the game warden paid them a visit after they shot around 100+ rounds one morning, they were quiet for the rest of the season after that but it was too late by then as this was mid January. I am hoping that all of their noise/shooting will push the deer toward me but with the hogs moving in this year I am wondering how good this season is going to be.

They could just be shooting for fun. Lots of people don't hunt but enjoy shooting.

You don't have hogs in Perry or Hale County?

I bet not, my FIL hunts in Greene county not a mile from the Sipsey and they have never seen a hog in 20 years.

Interesting. Thought they were more populous down there.

i have hunted as a guest in both counties within the last few years. i have saw on several occasions numerous encounters with the little swines. i'm not trying to say that ya'll have hogs on your place, but it is very likely that you just haven't saw any. put out some rotten sweet taters an pour some corn on top, put you a motion light on it.then get you a chair, some drinks and enjoy the show

Well it's not a nailgun, more like 30-06, shotgun, and possbily a 17, I would say that it's just shooting for fun but who shoots for fun at 6am and 7pm during the month of Nov and Dec, We do have ducks in the swamp below my parents house and since alot of the shotgun shooting was taken place in the evening around 6:30-7:00 during the winter so I'll let someone else think about that one. Either way they shoot all hours of the day

In a parity to the AllState mayhem guy.... "Hello, I'm a night hunter, law breaker/poacher and I brag about shooting big bucks at night. I shoot anything I want, any time, anywhere! I'd rather hunt private property and steal wild game grown by ethical hunters!! Oh, if I get caught? Well, it's usually a slap on the wrist and I'm back at it again shortly after walking out of the court room. I'm a POS poacher and night hunter and you can't stop me! I suppose it's dangerous for you/your family and the law abiding hunter if I'm shooting my gun where people might be but so what? I do what I want!"
