Too dang cold to do much productive outside today. Guess I’ll try to get some of my burning done. Maybe I can get enough fire going to keep warm.

I dont think you have a problem getting one going with the low humidity - good luck!

Well that didn’t carry worth a crap. Was hoping with the wind and low humidity I would have had it roaring but I guess the ground was still too damp and cold.

I'm planning some for tomorrow. May not be enough wind to carry it very well, but I'm gonna try.

We had a good burn today. There wasn't really enough wind, and what there was turned out to be inconsistent, but the humidity was so low that it burned well anyway. I think tomorrow will be similar. Good luck to all who try it

Need a couple days with these conditions where the ground is not still frozen solid at 2 pm. I’m giving it a try tomorrow.

Got some upland hardwoods burned today that I couldn't get to carry more than a couple feet last week.

We burned 4,500 acres of forest service land this week. Got off in time to burn some for the neighbors today. It was ripping through upland longleaf on the forest at 8:00 this morning but couldn’t hardly get fire to carry with a head fire at 3:00 this afternoon in plantation loblolly’s on flat ground but I did have good luck getting early successional areas to burn this afternoon.

Those LL's probably need gotten soon before they candle out. Conditions are good for it now. We burned about 110 acres of loblolly Friday in south Montgomery with great results.

In north AL we can burn young longleaf well into March before candling.

I was gonna do more today and tomorrow, but the state has issued a no burn order for today. The fire weather forecast doesn't support shutting it down like this, but I guess they can do whatever they want.

Their resources are stretched thin fighting all the wild fires this week. It was VERY volatile yesterday. We burned 6 days in a row and yesterday had me on edge the whole day. The humidity is dropping below 20% in some areas with inconsistent winds. I don’t blame them.

I prefer 3-5 mph and 30-45% humidity. I’ve burned in 25 mph gusts with humidity as low as 13%. Anything below 28% with a 8-10 mph wind gets very interesting and quick. Actual conditions and forecast conditions are rarely perfectly aligned. Local conditions on site can vary quite a bit from a weather station a few miles away.

They’re currently issuing permits to certified burn managers ONLY.

Is there a place where they make such announcements? There was nothing on the forestry commission website, and they don't keep up their X account. My wife found a post from an individual on FB, but I haven't found anything official anywhere. I can't blame them for calling a halt when conditions are bad, but I don't see why they can't make it public on a government site. The dispatcher I talked to this morning didn't know; he said the word comes down from the "higher ups."

I don't like to burn when there's a lot of wind, but today would have been perfect for what I wanted to do. Maybe I will get another chance.

The fire weather forecast also isn't showing accurate conditions. Tuesday night RH was supposed to be in the 90s and never got past 40. All of the forecasts have been more favorable than the actual conditions on the ground this week. It's been a pretty volatile few days

Unfortunately, yeah that’s her.

And we both just left an escaped prescribed fire we completed yesterday. An ember from a smoldering snag that was not even on fire yesterday pitched across. Been a long week.

That's me! Thank you so much! Blessed to be able to chitchat about what I love to do. Brock's just ornery after 7 straight days of fire.

Wish they would have issued me a permit late Sunday afternoon. It was perfect conditions for what I'm trying to accomplish in a few areas, but better to be safe. Hopefully the wind tomorrow will help dry out tonight's rain and I can get something going Thursday. If not, there's always next week.
