Around $400. Barnett 400(with cocking rope) or Ten Point with cocking crank at about $1200. IMO the Barnett is just as accurate and shoots harder.

A thumb or a few fingertips if you're not careful. Thats true, just like your life with a gun if your not careful.

After having neck problems and doing A TON of reading and research, I went with an Excalibur Axiom crossbow. Excalibur was the overwhelming recommendation by the people I talked to and also the reading I did.
I would normally have bought something like that on ebay but I had never held a crossbow, so I bought it at Bass Pro. (I was in a hurry) The guy at Bass Pro said they have a lot of Barnetts come back for problems and almost no Excaliburs. The bow I got is super accurate. The only problem with the crossbow is that it was very loud as it came. I bought and installed the string stop suppressors, and the dissipator bars. That knocked the noise way back. I bought both, seperately on ebay and had about $60 total in them.
So, for the end of a long answer to a short question, if you puchase online and avoid sales tax, you could get that for $600. The Axiom comes with a scope, bolts, field tips, rope cocker and quiver.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I got the Horton Legend 175 for less than $300 several years ago. Probably about $350 now. I have a reddot on it and it's probably not the hightest quality, but it works fine for me. I looked at Excalibur but didn't like how big and heavy it was. I'm not too worried about the noise because of how fast it is. I took the biggest buck of my life with it 2 seasons ago. If you can go to an archery shop, they will let you try several to see which one is best for you.

Get the Excalibar. You can thank me later.

Consider the Horton Vision and others like it with the inverted limbs. Feels much more balanced that typical crossbows that have all the weight at the end. My 10 year old son can handle it fine. Just a thought if strength is an issue.
