I know there are lots of "activated carbon" scent eliminating/excluding clothes storage bags out there. I assume after a while the idea is to run them through the dryer to "reactive" them. My understanding is that to truly reactivate the carbon it needs to be experience much higher temperatures than normal dryer temperatures.

I don't know how many of you out there have kept aquariums in the past, but little perforated bags of activated carbon of various sizes are used in filtration systems. These are pretty reasonably priced too compared to all the various "scent control" hunting related stuff. My idea was use a few of these bags tossed into the bags I normally use to store hunting clothes in hopes of pulling out residual odors left from the time before and keeping household odors off the clothes.

Seems this would work a lot better than the miniscule amount of carbon that's likely in the Tinks storage bags, and is totally replaceable with true activated carbon for a few bucks. Thoughts?

I use to buy a big "milk carton" of that charcoal, put it in an old sock and put it in the washer with my clothes when they got to the rinse cycle. I have no idea if it worked. I haven't done that in several years.

I have thought about taking charcoal and putting them in a small container, punch holes in the top then place it in my tote where my boots are

Sorry for going off topic but aren't idiot and genius synonyms in a hunter's vocabulary?

I keep all my hunting clothes and boots in plastic containers that seal. Every year I put 6 of those earth scent wafers in them. Currently has about 30 of them in there since I have have been doing it for years. Also have same exact setup at the camp for when I'm up there for more than a weekend. Trust me when i tell you that the clothes are pretty impregnated with the earth scent. Kinda off topic but that's what I do.

I think you'd be served better by putting containers of baking soda in those containers. Those new boxes made for the fridge would be perfect. We all know it works, why not use it ? Are you positive the charcoal will absorb odor when used this way ?

Not positive - just assumed that scent control suits used activated charcoal. Baking soda is super cheap so maybe I'll use it too

Careful on the Kingsford. That type charcoal has petroleum binders and stuff added which you can smell when cooking. I would only use the 'natural' wood charcoal crushed (which ought to be essentially carbon from burnt wood).

That being said I don't really know if activated charcoal = crushed up grill charcoal anyway.

activated carbon is different than charcoal. It is usually made from coconut hulls that are heated in a controlled environment with certain mixture of gases ( not sure of the exact process) .. this increases the carbons surface area by making it very porous which is the reason it is able to absorb and trap odors. Regular charcoal will absorb some odor, but no where near as much as the activated carbon can
