Gonna try to get out and kill my first hog on sunday afternoon, gonna be about 80 degrees or so - what am i lookin at in time of meat spoilage? Got about an hour drive from where i'm hunting, do i need to field dress and pack in ice or will I be ok to bring him on to the house and clean him?

I carry 2 liter bottles of frozen water with me. Gut the pig and stick a couple inside.

Thanks for the info! Any cleaning tips or tricks yall hog killers got for a rookie? I've killed just about everthing that walks or crawls in alabama at one time or another, just have never had hunting rights to land with hogs on it. Gonna head down to lowndes wma and try to knock one or two in the head and put some meat in the freezer.

I clean mine just like a deer. Quarters, backstraps, and tenders. Watch the boars of all sizes, they can't secreat (SP) the nastiest smelling urine you can imagine. I cut down their belly on both sides all the way under it and take it back up over the rear. Don't mash it any either. I guess they scent with it. Nasty.

On small pigs (30 and under) I quarter, cut the ribs off and leave the back intact leaving the loins and tenders on it. Man it is good on the grill that way. Small enough to cook hole.

I think some of my nephews are going to LMA next weekend. If you haven't been there before, send me a PM. I can get you up with them.
