I know they love feeding in cotton I have heard the same, especially in the South GA big agriculture areas, but I have hunted cotton fields my whole life in South AL and have never seen aggressive feeding in cotton fields, especially during deer season after it has been picked. As for cotton seed gin trash like the original poster is describing, it is super high in protein and loved by cows, but I don't think it would work in most places in AL. It is fed on cattle farms I hunt and I have never seen deer use it. My guess is it works in Texas due to a lack of preferred browse, which Alabama has plenty of with all the clear-cutting and pine thinning. That and Texas deer are more accustomed to getting significant portions of their diet from feeders.
