Haven’t really caught good sized crappie consistently all summer. Haven’t really caught but 1 or 2 a trip since back in the spring. Finally found a school of bigger crappie today15-16 inch really wide crappie. And I noticed out of that school all but one were white crappie (lake is full of em) and a black crappie (the biggest I caught today). Do they usually mix in schools? I know they tend to be bigger and are a little harder for me to catch sometimes.

It's an interesting question and I don't really know. Most of what I catch fishing on Lay and Martin are the blacks, and I catch very few whites. I don't know if the lakes have more blacks, or if I catch more because of the way I fish, targeting schools of crappie in deeper water. It may be that the blacks are just more likely to school that way. I usually make a picture of whatever I catch to sort of keep a record of it. Here's a pic from September of a big white with all the rest looking like black ones.

Ive sit onem an just caughtem 1 right after the other and it be 6 of one…half dozen of the other…but most of the time i catchem and its skewed heavily towards black crappie with whites mixed in. Now…i aint got n electronics no more…i just fish where they ortah be…so someone with livescope might have a better guess.

I have livescope and not sure you can tell one from another on that… if you can, I can’t. But the lakes I fish I can catch all white and a few blacks in one. Drive 10 minutes and catch all black with a few whites in a different lake… just got me curious today .

Most of the lakes I fish are all Black Crappie. I fish Gantt and Point A and catch both together all the time.
