Never been on Lake Tuscaloosa, but I've never heard anything good about it.

Never been on Lake Tuscaloosa, but I've never heard anything good about it. Decent crappie fishing (I'd even go so far as to call it "good", if you have some good spots)......bass fishing is awful. You can usually catch plenty of 1 - 1.5 pound bass if you know what you're doing (I don't) and 2 pounders aren't particularly uncommon. If you can catch a 5-fish bag that includes a couple of 3 pounders, you have a good chance at winning a tournament and probably "Big Fish" too. Most of the Tue/Fri nighters from late spring - late summer are won with < 10 pounds, and "big fish" usually 3-4#. I really only fish it because I live 5 min from the Binion Creek ramp. If you're trying to catch decent or "good" bass, the river is a MUCH better option (although the HS tournament there this weekend was won with 8#. A couple of GomerJr's buddies won the junior division with 10# and it was the biggest bag of the tournament, but they weren't eligible for the HS part since they were competing as juniors)
