it's about time they changed the points for starting spots. top 35 in points thing will be gone next year. let the fastest 43 cars that day race.

My prediction: Long and boring with craploads of empty seats in the stands, like most all NASCAR races.

Looked like more empty seats than filled seats on tv. I think Nascar is in a major downslide.

A few ideas for NASCAR:

1. Make each race 50 laps for long tracks and 100 laps for short tracks. No reason at all why this crap has to drag on for 4 hours. You can tell who the best driver/best car is in 50 laps.
2. With 10 laps to go, all cars down a lap or more have to leave the track. They have no chance of winning and just get in the way of those who do.
3. For the cup chase, all cars/drivers not in the chase do not participate--their season ends with the regular season, just like the playoffs in any other sport. See point 2 for the reason.
4. The season lasts way too long. Even die-hard fans get tired of watching cars turn left for four hours a week, 51 weeks a year.
5. The cars go too fast at Daytona and Talladega creating monster wrecks and unsafe conditions. Instead of handicapping the cars with restrictor plates (which doesn't work anyway), NASCAR should provide each team with an identical car and have them race that. A weak 4-cylinder car like a Corolla.

I quit going to the races about 15 years ago. Only so many times I can watch cars turn left. I only went for the partying anyway.

at least the temp was cool. yes, boring race for the most part. at least no green-white checker.

since ideas were thrown out...

-each car needs a gas gauge...when you're about to run out, pit rather than having the guys behind you pile up when you're car slows down
-tell the teams it's going to be a 450-550 mi race and announce the number laps with 2 laps to go and i bet they'll race a little harder

and yes, the campgrounds and the track were as empty as i've ever seen but it was kinda nice smile

I heard that today. They keep that up and they may lose one of the races. I agree the season is way to long maybe every track should have only one race.

It's most all tracks, not just Talladega. All of these tracks expanded and added seats several years ago when NASCAR was booming, the economy wasn't terrible, and gas wasn't $4 a gallon. A weekend trip to a racetrack then wouldn't break the bank. Most folks aren't going to choose going to a race as a priority. I, personally, have lost alot of interest in NASCAR due to numerous things. Mainly because it's too commercialized today and the stupid a$$ chase format.

It used to be a driver would keep a number and sponser for most of his career. Now you never know from one year to the next. I don't think that helps matters any. It's definatly not what it once was.
