Where would you recommend on going for a free range rifle hunt. Outside of Alabama preferably. Specific outfitters.

My brother guides in Texas and I go once or twice a year. We normally shoot management deer on the owners property and for the money and quality of deer you can’t beat it. Once you start hunting in Texas you can’t stop. It’s addictive very target rich environment. You can hunt out there for three or four days and kill one really good deer and hunt in Alabama for a lifetime and never see a deer of that quality

Texas. Lived there 15 years. Abilene to San Antonio to Ozona back to San Angelo. Great hunting. Big deer.

Texas, South Texas to be specific, and the best hunting is in Webb County. There will also likely be more wild hogs than you have ever seen.

If you can't get into Webb County, don't stress, because the great hunting starts south of San Antonio, and just gets better the closer you get to the Webb County/Laredo area.

We have also had great trips in Live Oak, Zavala, Dimmit and Duval counties. There is less free range, but still good deer between Houston and San Antonio on the Post Oak Plateau. Also great hunting in the Hill Country, but the deer will be smaller bodied. I killed an 8 point near Harper a few years back that scored 128, but was only 98 lbs live weight.

We have killed several in the 220-250 lb range in Webb County.

I see a lot of answer being Texas but you have to define “free range” because there is a lot of fence out here. It wasn’t specified whether it to be a paid hunt or public land.

I’m a free range guy. I don’t believe in penning up natural/native game nor calling them “yours”.

If you are looking for a Texas outfitter for a trophy buck then its only limited by your wallet.

I actually find satisfaction in Alabama hunting, it seems a simpler process.

My favorite states to hunt in are all in the south but I don’t shoot bucks anymore and I never was a rack hunter.

I have 15 acres kinda surrounded by the Bienville National Forrest off I-20 in Mississippi that I would have to say is among my favorite spots.

Best part of Texas Hill Country

777 ranch, Christian Outfitter Alliance, OX Ranch, La Paloma, Los Lazos, Somos Pobres.

Some of these might be private now, but we have had great hunts with all of these.

I think it’s 2500 for a management tag. That’s 140 and below I believe

And for the experience of hunting a place like that, what you’ll see, the lodging, and the deer you’ll kill it’s a very reasonable price for a deer in the 130-140 class.
