Saw a pile of them in 15-25 feet this week some huge groups on the bottom on a drop and a huge group on standing timber You on Lay? I went over Monday and couldn't find any in Paint creek. Places that have held big schools the previous 2 summers just haven't held them this year. I finally went up river and started finding small groups, but they were nice fish. The only larger schools I found were 7-9" fish with no big ones. I had a decent day, but never saw the big schools I used to see on Lay. I think I need to start fishing further up the river. It's been easy to find big schools on Martin all summer. They don't always bite aggressively, but they are always there. If a fellow just wants to catch crappie, he can go to Martin and fish the bridges with minnows and catch them most any time.

Saw some in paint on standing timber one day a week or two ago, the big group was on a long point across the river in front of the public boat ramp the other big group was on timber a couple hundred yards in the creek just before the narrows on the right if you are going up river

People ask me when will crappie start biting? I always tell them I have never seen one float up starved to death However, we all know that they are easier to catch at certain times… Fact!

Me and a buddy caught quite a few this weekend from the kayaks. Almost every one of them was 4-6' down. Water temp was 75-ish, I think. We pulled probably 20 small ones (8-10") off 1 single tree, and probably 7 or 8 in the 10-12" range out from under a floating dock in 20' of water (bites were still only 4-6' down though). The few bigger ones we caught (a couple of 12-14" and one that was a hair over 15") were all solo.
What's weird is you could dangle a live minnow right in front of their nose and they wouldn't touch it, but you could vertical jig a Bobby Garland monkey milk in the exact same spot and they'd hammer it.
Every bite we got was pretty aggressive
