I planted some squash and zucchini around the 1st of August in our garden, hoping to get a 2nd planting. It was just starting to bud and possibly flower, but between the deer and squirrels - they have completely obliterated pretty much everything.
To be honest - I am not mad about it - I think we have enough put up in the freezer to last us till Spring, but even after caging the few remaining plants, they eat the leaves coming out of the cage. I don't know if this dry spell has caused them to move in or what is going on, but in addition to the garden they have eaten pretty much all of my wife's flowering plants.
I planted some Romain lettuce the other day and will plant some baby spinach this weekend - I'm thinking that I will have the same disappointment.

It happens every year.. as soon as everything gets really dry the deer mow down anything left in my garden. Went from having a fine stand of okra to a bunch sticks over night. I am waiting for this to happen in my okra. Been seeing deer tracks around it

I have a six foot chainlink fence around my garden.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

If I didn't have a 5 strand, 6' tall electric fence around my garden, deer would wipe it out as soon as it came out of the ground Same here . Got 5 ft fence with electric around top a bottom . I’m done fighting with critters . If I could kill all the crows I be good .
