If your dog was at a trainer, the best system would be the one that is already started. Most guys I know follow the Total Retriever Training program by Mark Lardy.

I’d just continue with what the trainer had him doing. If the trainer did his job the dog should be pretty much ready with exception of experience. The handler is usually who needs the most work

ok I have been quite long enough. Dogs are like humans everyone is different you and your dog can work together sure you may have to force fetch and then again you may not. an electric collar is a wonderful device BUT I have seen many dogs ruined by a person not knowing how to use one. I fooled with labs for over twenty years I judged 134 Hrc events plus 6 grands and I hated to see a dog come to the line with its tail between its legs because I knew right away it was scared to death. Anyway it will be trial and error I wish you all the luck in the world and have fun 😊

I am drinking from my saucer cause my cup has overflowed. Thank you Lord

Yes I hate to see that too. Confidence squashed most of the time. Dog is scared to death to make a mistake.

The trainer should have educated the owner as well as the dog in my opinion you should go back to him or her and let them guide you

Agree regarding above that consistency in training is key. I have heard good things about cornerstone and it is step by step. I’ve seen dogs 100% amateur trained with the program that do well. No direct experience though.

I also use Total Retriever Training 2. I have trained extensively with fishduck and many other trainers over 20 years and added techniques used by them into my program. Get a program and stick with it never moving on to the next step without the dog having mastered the step you are on. The best advice I could give is find a trainer who is willing to take you under his wing and throw ducks for him in exchange for helping you train your dog. Not sure how far you are from fishduck but he is an excellent trainer and always willing to help.
