Miller has sold a bunch the last few years I heard. Presuming we’re speaking of Miller Lumber from Selma. I was told they had 180k acres at one point. TR Miller out of Brewton

I thought TR Miller was like Strothers used to be. Claude’s sister told the judge in Federal Court in Mobile “Your Honor, we are STROTHER’S, we don’t sell land, we BUY land”. Supposedly the State was trying to eminent domain their way into a piece of land along the river the Strother’s owned in order to put in a boat landing. I won’t swear as to the accuracy of the story, as it was related to me by a very old man, but one who was tangentially involved in the process (or so he claimed). I know somebody deeply involved in the wood, land, and business community in Brewton. I’ll see if he will tell me anything.

Two different conversations going on here.

We lost our lease with Larson and Mcgowin this year due to a large trust fund they managed selling out. They did not tell us who the buyer was but I can't help but wonder if it is Weyerhaeuser after seeing this thread. Property was in Conecuh County between Evergreen and Andalusia. Yeah, I too have a Larson and McGowan lease in Escambia County that I’m worried about. Did you not get the option to lease with the new owner or did they just pull the plug? They just pulled the rug! Did not tell us who the new owner will be or give us an option to lease from new owners down the road. We were at $8.00 per acre which I know is on the low end for our area so I am sure the new owners will want to start substantially higher and probably thought it would be easier to do that with new clientele

I was speculating when I guessed T R Miller. Only player that came to mind in that area with the acreage That's who I figured you were talking about, especially since the conversation included acreage in Escambia County. I'm not familiar at all with Miller Lumber out of Selma, and a quick search shows they own zero acres in Escambia County. TR Miller owns many many thousands of acres in Escambia alone, and several hundred thousand acres outside of it. Apologies to RobertD if we weren't on the same page. It's all good, man.

I heard it's Soterra land from one person and that it's Boykin land from another person. Both did say it's in SW Alabama, north of Mobile. Clark Co. etc.

Clark Co. etc. Last I knew, Boykins controlled around 100k acres with almost all of that being located in Mobile and Washington counties. Could be them, but if it is, they would be liquidating almost all of their timberland holdings, most likely with the exception of their family estate just north of McIntosh. I doubt seriously that they are involved in this deal.

The Weyerhauser/Soterra deal was a couple of years ago. Is this a new acquisition or the previous ? It could be additional land purchased from Soterra. But the 83,000 acres is a new deal, which closed a week or so ago. It is 100% not TR Miller though.
