What kinda bait y’all using to catch flatheads? Nice Cut bluegill. Hands down, the head portion seems to be the favorite. I've tried live bait, but cut bait catches more. I quit chasing skipjack, it has been a waste of time this year. I've also tried cut drum and buffalo. Those two baits resulted in zero bites. The key is to not let the cut bait soak for over 30 minutes. The pattern for the last couple of weeks is to drop baits behind a underwater hump. But it seems I can only catch one fish per stop. So I move around a lot. Dragging with planer boards is also another effective technique. But be prepared to lose a lot of tackle. This Saturday, I may drag baits over the mussel beds to see it produces some blues.

If I'm fishing a tournament I will move about every 30 minutes if I'm not catching enough fish obviously you need to find some aggressive fish to get started.... When I get a decent limit I'll slow that down and move every hour or maybe longer trying to catch the bigger fish. Blues seem like do a lot more hunting around where Flatheads ambush the bait. You can fish the same way day in and day out for both but bait presentation is the key to flatheads. In my experience they don't travel well. I get a lot of single flatheads with cut bait on the bottom.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
