I have dreaded making this post for a year now. I felt I would see it come along for sale, and I would be able to get it back. Last year December 13th my daughter’s hunting rifle went missing from my truck. This rifle was very special to me. It was my rifle for a long time, and she killed her first deer with it in 2022, so I gave it to her that day. Because it f this it means more to me than money and I am willing to pay to get it back. I can give her another gun, but it won’t be the same gun as we made with that memory. No questions asked, I don’t care if you found it on the side of the road. I was at our hunting lease in Natural Bridge, and reported missing in Winston County. I am posting the only pics I have of it along with serial numbers. They are from my record keeping app, so they are grainy, but it’s all I got. It’s a Ruger American Conpact .308 in a Magpul stock, with a Meopta Optika 6 2.5-15x44 Illuminated. Ruger American Serial Number - 695-08652 Meopta Optika 6 Serial Number - R21122395 ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/sIGnq4f.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/fp9cOGx.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/3BHFkXK.jpeg)

That’s horrible. Hope it turns up. I had someone steal everything in my truck a few years back, except my pistol. They picked it up and set it back down in my seat. I guess they figured it was too easy to track it. Hope it does too! However I've been waiting on half dozen to turn up for 20 years now 😔

For those of you who have reported your firearms stolen, you have got to be aware of this caveat and DO NOT ASSUME it: Reporting a firearm stolen and it actually being entered into NICS is two different things. Unfortunately, a lot of law enforcement officers DO NOT enter the information into NICS. I assume they just don’t understand the process or something. If you have one stolen and report it, make sure you follow up and ask for the NICS number for each firearm. If you get a deer in the headlights look, you can assume they don’t know what you’re talking about which means it probably didn’t get entered into the NICS system. If that’s the case, you’ll probably never see it again because it will never get a hit.
Also, make sure you have make, model, serial number and caliber entered. I have seen an AR pass a stolen check when entered as a 5.56 and then pop up as stolen when an astute examiner had enough sense to check both as a 223 as well as a 5.56.
I experienced a mass theft years ago and went for years without nothing. When I followed up with the detective, he admitted he never entered them into NICS. At first, he was trying to convince me the entries had expired. I called him out and told him I later became a dealer and to quit blowing smoke. I assume he entered at least a few after that discussion because I finally got one back a few years later. To this day, I don’t trust that he entered them all.
I hope this post helps someone understand exactly what has to take place. You may find yourself educating your local LEOs.

I had a bunch stolen in 2014 from my home. Not a single one has turned up.
You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

I hope this post helps someone understand exactly what has to take place. You may find yourself educating your local LEOs. LE actually needs to enter the stolen gun in NCIC, not NICS. But yes, don’t just assume LE is entering them into NCIC.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but reporting it may not do any good at all and doesn’t guarantee you that it won’t show up in a gun shop somewhere. My dad was a collector when he was alive. Didn’t collect anything in particular. Just what caught his eye. One day he bought a used pistol from a very well known, and reputable, gun store. Filled out all the paperwork and took it home. He put it in the safe like he did everything he bought. TWO YEARS LATER…the gun shop calls him up and asks him if he still had it. He said he did. Turned out the pistol was stolen and had been reported as such at the time. It just took over two years for it to make it through whatever channels there are, for it to pop up. Dad took it back and they gave him his money back.

One of my good friends who is absent minded lost his Glock from the top of his car. He reported it lost and 9 years later it was used in a crime, confiscated and returned to him. It may turn up when you least expect it. Good luck!!
