planted 3 weeks ago into absolute baby powder soil, added a half rate of a summer blend with it. all of the peas are now a 2-3” stem. planted 3 acres worth with a 50lb bag. will hit it with cleth in the next week or so to knock back some grassy weeds that are present. all that’s left is to pray for semi consistent rain and it should produce until the first frost. this is the first year i’ve tried vetch, the RR soybean/corn blends i’ve always used is a lot of work but always done well, just trying something a little easier 👌👌

Put a tall cage on it. You’ll be surprised at how high it will grow. I’ve had it get 5’ tall. Hit it with 0-20-0.

I meant to say hit it with 0-20-20 if this is joint vetch. I know there are diff types of vetch but joint vetch is all I have ever grown.
And they keep it mowed down.

How much do they like it, how much browse? On my place anything in a plot that size that they preferred would be eaten to the ground.

very few deer on the property from february until mid july, the first bachelor group showed up yesterday afternoon. 30 acre property, 3 acres of this blend and 3 acres of ladino. 3 years ago we planted the same 6 acres in wms pea patch and they ate it to the ground by early september. first year with the vetch so i will keep the thread updated. we have one camera on a big trough feeder and one on this field. deer were in it all night coming and going

Hairy vetch is not good for wildlife and can be a menace to get rid of in early succession areas btw
