That's what happened with mine early on, they would get about 3 inches, rain hit them hard and they all rotted....what type of fertilizer you hitting yours with?

It was so dry here that the weeds were wilted over. Yesterday afternoon a storm just sat over my area for hours. S. Florida getting too much. Very happy we got some. Many other areas in N. FL got zero.
