Son saw a bob quail last week and i've been sitting here listening to one for an hour. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/aLTnXiD.jpeg) If i knew how to post a vid i would. Its been a long time since ive heard one bark. Had to get up n walk around to see if someone was screwing with me.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

ya know, now that i think about it, they disappeared about the time we had the dipause(sp?) phase of the boll weevil eradication program. If i remember right, every acre was sprayed multiple times that year with some really stout pesticides. I mean like nuking every field. Killed everything. They did it in areas, which would explain why they just disappeared up here overnight.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Had a covey of 12 last year within 5 steps of the shooting house in Marion county. This was basically Sam Murphy mgmt area were we have a lease. Game warden pulled up and ran them off. He saw me parked on the line to our private. He said he had seen a couple coveys there. It was really cool to see and listen to them feed. I had jumped them going in before daylight. I forgot how bad a busted covey will make your heart stop in the dark. I had not seen a covey like that in many many years.

They were plentiful in Lawrence County when I was growing up in the 80's and they just disappeared. I had a great uncle who was a great bird hunter. He told me the story of the best day he ever had. Said he left walking early morning with his dogs and encountered 3 coveys. Said he had a box of shells with him. He was back home by lunch and had 24 in his bag. He had 2 old brownings, a 12ga, but always toted the sweet 16. I wish he was still around to listen to those old stories. Also wished I could get my hands on one of his old guns.

Heard one Saturday night. Saw the hen and poults again Saturday morning. I am ready for fall!
