Anyone apply for the program where Alabama Power gives $50 per acre for planting power line right of ways? We have in the past but this year the application on their website wont go through. Typically you cannot get a person on the phone

I’ve done it before but it wasn’t worth the hassle. Only had a little over 1 acre they would pay for and they would send a member of the county extension office out to measure the area and I decided to not go that route again. Might be well worth it if you have a lot of powerline area that is plantable.

would it work through a lease or do you have to be the property owner?

Between power line left and RR bed west combined scales out to nearly 1 1/2 acres. It’ll hurt your feelings. Looks bigger but it’s not. You can do it on lease land or private land.

It is not a hassle. You spend 5 minutes on the computer and You get one pleasant visit from an extension rep. In our case we get paid for what we were going to do anyway.

First I've heard of this program. I looked at the website and it says it's for landowners. It doesn't say anything about leases. Do any of you have experience doing it in the land you lease?
