you go hunting how much ammo you take .


i take depending on gun about 24 to 35 rifle rounds and 36 or 46 handgun rounds . if i only take two guns total .some times i take two long guns and a hand gun .


always more ammo in the truck if im away from home hunting .

Ummm 5 in the rifle plus a few rounds in the backpack. I ain’t going to war. Just trying to kill a deer. Funny thing is, I shoot 3x a season but somehow end up missing about 12 rounds when I put it all up.

3 in the rifle and i believe my sling holds 6..

I have a full mag +1, and I have some neat little Velcro ammo holders that I keep in my backpack. I have one for my wife’s ammo, mine and my daughters. My boys have their own.
When we dog hunted, I kept a box with me always.

4 rifle rounds. I usually don’t get in too many firefights on the way back to the truck in the FreeState so no need for any more.

for day to day hunting, I'll carry 3-5 in the gun and probably another 3-5 in my pack. If Im going on a long trip to hunt I'll carry the same loadout day to day but will bring 40 rounds with me (in case something gets bumped and I end up needing to sight in at location) When I go to Alaska this Fall were bringing one rifle (in case we can't get close enough for bows) two 44 mag revolvers, 40 rifle rounds and 20 handgun rounds.

i like those holders that fold up . what i use and the ones that go on the butt stock .

1 in the chamber....4 in the clip.....that's all. The one in the chamber is for the Deer or Coyote.....other 4 are in case I run into a Swamp Ape....they're TUFF!!

Depends on the rifle. Some I have cartridge holders on, some I dont. Magazine rifles I keep another magazine with me. But normally 5 rounds of rifle ammunition and a cocked and locked 1911 with an extra magazine.

It never ceases to amaze me how much unnecessary stuff people take hunting with them. I have plenty of hogs to shoot so I keep a box of ammo in the ranger but only take 5 to the stand unless the goal is to shoot hogs then I take the AR. I guess I just hate carrying stuff in and out enough that I go more minimalist each season unless I have the kids with me. Then, I pack snacks and entertainment to keep them content during the slow times. Lol

Since all my rifles burnt up in the flood and don’t have any rounds for firearms anymore, I’ll usually have a pack of 100 3/8” clay balls on my pocket for my super duper sling shot!!

So 2 bows, 1 long gun, 2 pistols, and a lot of ammo, and you're packing all of that on the hunt?

In Alaska I carried 4 in the gun and maybe 6 xtra in my pack. The 3 states here if I'm gun hunting, 4 in gun 3-4 in pack.
Bow hunting, typically no guns unless grizzly are around then my pistol usually gets added. I don't worry about black bears and cats...

Hey, to each his own. Be thankful you got that type of ground to hunt on. I had a farm in Hartselle that I maybe would see one buck a season

I should have clarified, yes, we will be taking 2 bows, 1 rifle, 2 handguns and 60 total rounds for two weeks. we will check zero on the rifle on the way up the Dalton and the rest will go with us on the airboat ride to camp. If we take the rifle out will have 4 in the gun and probably 4-5 extra rounds in the pack. Revolvers will be loaded and will probably take 1 full reload between the two of us.

Bow hunting I try to have 6 arrows cause you never know. I’ve emptied a quiver of 4 arrows too many times. You kill a buck, a doe and predator in one hunt and you’re left with nothing if you happen to miss once or spine shoot something and have to follow up.

Whatever the magazine for the rifle I'm carrying can hold, usually 3-4. Don't see why I need more than that.

Depends. If it’s day trip to certain places I’m happy with 3 in the rifle and 5 in a wallet. For camp trips I usually have at least two rifles and a minimum box for each. A couple successful days thinning hogs can deplete my supply pretty quick.

its rare that i shot twice . back when we could kill two does a day two shots were not unusual , three would be rare . back when i hunted where we had tags to thin does i ate through shells . most times i ever shot at one deer 7 times i hit him five . over the years i have had deer run after the shot with a rifle then track and shot again with a shotgun . theres been some ive had to shot more one than once some times bouncing deer be hard to hit just right . carrying a few extra rounds aint that big a thing since i take very little else . you kill a lot of deer at some point sh!t happens . lol

one thing for sure , while deer hunting i never wished i had one more shell.

I can tell some of ya'll have never had to run the gun dry on a pack of coyotes or feral dogs.

I HAD A PACK of five feral dogs attack me and my two young daughters one afternoon near Moundville. I ran the gun dry and had to kick and beat the last one off my 5 year old as I tried to reload. I'd of given a LOT of hard money for a M-16 and a 30 round magazine loaded up.

I keep 4 in the rifle and two in a side saddle on the stock. Most of the time I have a 100 round count box in the truck nearly full.

Yup. My loadout always accounts for a situation like that where ever I hunt, public or private. When hunting public land the possibility of running into Green Teeth and his inbred cousins is always a possibility too. Plan accordingly.

Normally I just put the full 20 round box in my pack at the start of season and call it good. Both of my rifles are .270 and where and how I am hunting determines which one I carry. Currently that box has 15 rounds in it after killing 3 deer last year. Probably will replenish the box after range time before the season starts. I am a firm believer of shoot till they drop or until I can’t see them anymore. I’ve had to knife a couple in my early years of hunting and would rather not have to do that again.

3 or 4 total bullets. No more than that ever.

In my 32 years since I first began hunting, it has never taken me more than 1 or 2 bullets to ever get the job done, and rarely more than 1 shot per deer. I have both of my godfathers to thank for that because they spent a lot of time teaching me how to shoot well, which is critical to hunting success (obviously).

I have the Hornady ammo butt pad holders on most of my rifles.

I usually have 4/5 rounds in my rifle, 5 in the ammo holder loops, and 3 or 4 in the zip up part of the ammo holder.

Tote about that many with all my rifles.

^Yep. I always keep extra on me or in my pack. I hate the feeling of walking around with one bullet left in the gun if I shoot coyotes/hogs/whatever during the hunt. Just like to be prepared and it’s pretty simple to tote a couple extra bullets

THe rifle will be loaded to capacity so 4-5 and then I normall have a pistol on my hip with 15 rounds of 9mm.

I have 4 rounds in my hunting rifle. I have the 16 rounds left in box. I always carry my concealed carry while hunting as well with 3 magazines.

I shoot a single shot, so usually 1 in the gun and a couple in my shirt pocket. If it's rainy and I'm carrying my old bolt action, still 3.

Depends which gun I take. If its one of my AR's, whatever the magazine holds, usually 10. Bolt gun, as many as I can stuff in it.

Now that I have a 10mm, I take that too, which is 16 more rounds.

Usually a magazine full and an ammo wallet that has 3-4 of each caliber I shoot in it that stays in my hunting bag as back up. If hunting with the AR's I usually use a lower capacity mag stuffed full. Don't care for a big ol banana mag hanging out of my hunting rifle. Just gets in the way in my blinds.

I had four mastiff and Great Dane mix run at me one time at my sisters that probably would have killed her and two small kids had she not got back in the car faster .

Bolt action will work pretty fast

I've emptied my 5 shot Ruger Deerfield a few times while hog hunting. That usually happens when you crest a rise and walk right up on a full sounder of pigs.

I emptied two 15 round Glock mags one time on a sounder of 20 plus. I killed 7 for sure and hit 11. Dangdest thing I ever been a part of. They didn’t know what to do and just kept running around all over the place.

you had them confused , they heard the noise but some hogs wasnt leaving but they were laying down . i drop 9 crows one day turkey hunting the same way . they heard the noise but their buddies were still landing . lol
