I had some really large crepe myrtles in the yard when I bought my current house, they were the diameter of a 10 inch tree and they always had white flies and scales on them, which made all the leaves fall off before they could bloom. I tried spraying them with all types of insecticides, including neem oil, so I gave up and cut them down to start over. Now I have small crepe myrtles growing and I am having the same problem with the white flies and scales, etc. I continue to spray them once a week, but it seems like I am loosing the battle. Am I missing something and why do the plants keep getting infested with the same insects?

I will continue to spray them with neem oil and sevin for now since they are young plants, may be a loosing battle though.....if so, I will have to convince my wife that on a longterm basis, it's probably best to just plant another type of plant in that area.

Well, if I keep getting the scale and white flies, I will probably do the same.....even with my spraying them, it's seems to be a loosing battel.....

I just bought some root drench that supposed to kill them when they attack the tree. I haven’t used it yet. I have problems every summer.

You’ve got to use a systemic to get control. Dominion 2L is what I recommend, cut them back and when they start growing apply it then as that’s when they will absorb it the best. We had them horrible and I applied it in 2021 and have not had another problem however all the neighbors still have them. Order it from Domyown
