I own an Ocean Kayak Angler Scrambler. I am looking to add a depth finder/fish finder to it. I'm also interested in adding a anchor trolley and maybe some extra rod holders. Any of you guys modified your Kayaks? Do you have any advice/recommendations for me?

I have rigged up quite a few. Mine has extra rod holders, anchor trolley, sonar, lights, etc...
PM me if you have any questions.

LOL. Try 5 miles out in the gulf. That's a true kayaking trip. Did that a couple times this summer.

I've done several small mods to mine. I also stood by and watched an experienced fellow install several of my components. I could at least point you in the right direction. I also have some hardware if you need it, like the Tri-grip rivets. These are handy for installing items where a hand cannot reach inside the hull.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you're near Lake Martin and want some help.

Thanks for the links fellas. I've checked them out along with every Kayak forum I can find.

I'm looking to create a fishing light to increase my chances of catching some nightime crappie. Any quick/cheap solutions?

I'm leaning towards ordering some LEDs and making it happen, but I think there outta be some easier routes to take.

I saw a pretty neat DIY to create a collapsable vessle lighting pole that has a cheap flashlight on top. I'll be making one of those so I'll be legal, soon.

I used to be a hardcore kayak fisherman, sold all 3 of my yaks (outback, scrambler, redfish) to buy a boat and haven't made it around to buying another kayak. The anchor trolley is an absolute must and I would advise that you put one on each side. If you will be using that kayak in cooler weather I would seal the scupper holes because that was one wet kayak on your ass.

Mobile Bay Kayak Fishing Association is a great group of guys but you need to be a paying member to ($20) to get into the members only rigging section. The guys associated with Alabama River Fishing (http://www.alabamariverfishing.net/) are pretty awesome as well and you would probably be able to find someone local to fish with. It's always nice to have someone with you just in case.

Find a cooler that fits good in the tank well and mount some eyes back there so you can strap it down. Mount your extra rod holders to the cooler instead of putting more rod holders in the boat. Get a paddle leash. Put a float on your net, anchor rope and pliers. If you are fishing shallow water use a stakeout pole instead of the anchor, it's just easier. I assume you want a submersible light for crappie fishing? LED is definitely going to be the way to go because of power. I would suggest using two of these mounted in PVC, you can drop them over or build them so that they fit into a rod holder.

There are other places to buy that light, that's just an example.

I am a member of MBKFA. We have a Public tournament October 6. You should sign up to fish it. Fish any water in Alabama. Just have to be at 5 Rivers for weigh in.

Check out the Aquastar lights from the linked website. The downside is it takes a car battery to run them. The Aquastar mount perfectly in PVC and PVC will fit in a sideways mounted rod holder. I rigged my old Malibu to hold these lights. I still have the lights if you're interested. I would sell them reasonably.

Maybe some of their newer LED lights can work with a smaller battery. It might be worth a call to them.
