Its starting to get pretty dry……At this point I might wait on the second good rain to put seed in unless that first one is a tropical system. A half inch or something of that nature will barely settle the dust once it gets dry, dry.

2-3 weeks out here, maybe 4. I'm not about to plant anything before the first week in October, especially with as dry as it had been. Buddy planted a few of his plots between Thomasville and Linden around labor day, for bow season. He caught a decent rain early and 3 weeks in, they were coming up pretty good. Yep, he sent me a picture yesterday in one of them that looked like it had been nuked and then a picture of him holding an army worm in his hand. There's 2 really good reasons right now, not to be planting in the south central blackbelt.

The above being said, that is the only verified, trustworthy, report of Army worms that I've heard of so far this year, so you can take that for what it's worth.

As dry as it is where I am in Covington county I’m not even thinking about a food plot anytime soon

I never plant until the end of October. I have never understood why everyone plants into the driest part of the year. It's like we've all got to rush to the feed store to get the seed like it's going to sell out. Then you get the seed and you're having to throw it out because you don't have anywhere to store all that mess.

I order a pallet of seed tell the seed store I'm not coming to get it until sometime in late October and it's never an issue.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Against my better judgment planted today. Seed laid there for month waiting on rain last year and it did fine.

I did too, gonna finish tomorrow. They'll wait on rain. I've never had a problem planting after the 3rd week of September dry or not. I prefer mid October , but that ain't happening this year.

We plant third weekend in October. Has worked well for us for many years. We are mostly old now so not a lot of bow hunting going on. We mow the plots a couple times a year so they arent 6 foot tall when planting. Plus it seems deer graze more in our fields when they are a little shorter.

Well I broke my disk, so until I get the frame back from the fix it man, I can't plant. I bush hogged some today to get ready. Had one field I was going to bush hog, but it had a bunch of sunn hemp in it that the deer were hammering, so I left it alone.

I am going to wait on rain. It's to dry. I have some shady fields I could probably plant when my disk gets back together. I am still spraying fields some too.

We are putting up 3rd shooting house tomorrow.

Pretty dry here. Reckon ill wait another week or two. I ran a disc over about four acres at our new place one day this week. Wasnt too impressed with how that went. Planting a couple different perinneal clovers there and i really want them to take well, otherwise i would have just slung out the seed and bushhogged. Planting white dutch on about two acres of it, then early spring we will plant about an acre of blackberries and 140 blueberry bushes. I really want a good stand of white dutch in there so im taking special care in planting it.

I sprayed a few plots today but I’m not going to disk. Just broadcast and bush hog ahead of a good rain in the next month or so hopefully

Lockjaw, we quit trying to disk 3-4 years ago in that Shelby county chert. We’re 90% throw/mow and what is not, we bought a cultivator and rip, and then come back and rake with a rock rake to smooth out. We learned we’re just going to continue to battle broken pans and broken equipment disking over here.

We sprayed all plots today and will look to plant around rain sometime early to mid October.

Considered spraying, bush hogging, spreading seed, then lightly discing with disc blades straight to cover seed? That’s what we are going to try this year since it was so dry, and didn’t have enough thatch. I’m nowhere close to planting as dry as we are, but when we do, this is what I’m going to attempt.

I planted mine here at the house today. I was shocked at how much moisture was in the soil. It cut great.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
