Just moved from Ga to Al and looking at hunting wheeler this year. I was considering getting small boat, but then started looking at a bike. I was looking at hunting around the south end using flint creek. Any thoughts on suggestions? Would small boat / canoe be worth it?

Welcome to the area. I don’t hunt wheeler but if it was me I would try bike first for first year and scout all you can on foot and if you find some good areas I can access with boat then I would that route.

I'd try the bike or boot leather option first. Wheeler ain't nothing to play with when wind and current get crossways--so get enough boat if you plan on going out on the main river.

I moved back to Alabama from Tennessee about 15 years ago and Wheeler was the only place I had to hunt. I bought a 3 wheel trike to hunt there. It seemed like the more successful hunters were using mountain bikes. They would pack light or build a small trailer. The place will be run over with people the first two weeks and then they slowly disappear

Boat opens up your best options on Wheeler, in my opinion.
