"Fava" or Broad Beans. I planted these in tubs last winter as an experiment. They can take the cold weather we had, and are really a beautiful and sturdy plant. They shell easy w/ a zipper string. But.... The beans themselves have an outer skin that most people remove by blanching. (think Lima, but heavier) Many of the skins fell off by just stirring. Some had to be pinched after blanching, which is more trouble than most Americans are used to. A small percentage of people around the world have a reaction to these beans. I made my first meal a small one, and all seemed ok, and they were delicious. I planted these on Dec 12 2022. They were from a bag of "Gourmet" potatoes from Walmart. Again, just sort of an experiment. The vines were dying back, and I dumped the first tub today. Not too bad. They lived through many sub freezing nights, and Deer eating back the greens before I fenced them. I have a few more tubs planted on Jan. 5th, and Jan 17th 2023. Each tub had 3 small "seeds". Just thought some might enjoy my Winter gardening exploits.

Looking good! I am near to digging my red potatoes. Still a bit away for the russet and Adirondack blue potatoes. They were planted about two weeks after the reds. Looking forward to digging for tater treasure!
Be kind to one another and tell the ones you love that you love them often. We never know what tomorrow will bring.
