I have a 1983 Marlin JM stamped that is showing its age. Not heavily pitted or anything but shows significant bluing loss. Some of the screws show signs of being turned with the wrong size screwdriver. It is missing the site ramp. Etc. I want to clean it up and make it nice. Replace damaged or missing parts and refinish the metal. Should I have it reblued or go with Cerakote?

I have priced both and Cerakote is slightly cheaper and my gunsmith says should last longer than the blue. However, the last blue has lasted 40 years.

I would blue. Lever actions are supposed to be wood and blued.

Well since it's being restored the collector value is not in play. And since you use it I would ceramote it they a have a color that would be hard to tell from a blued finish if properly appilied

Gundoc did a cerakote job for me in midnight blue. Looks damn near like old school bluing imo.

For a classic lever gun you have to go blue IMO.

This would be my route and what I plan on doing with a 1100 20 gauge that needs a new finish.

Hard to beat old school rust bluing.
