Had a plan to sow Durano clover last week in portions of some of our plots. Our 2 larger plots were going to be where I focused. Found out they are logging in those 2 areas so I didnt see wasting fuel on a likely log yard. Chose to go up before we had a couple heavy frosts and just top sow the seeds. I chose areas where the GF either didnt get a good stand due to the drought when we sown them or winter Freeze got them. Other word they were really thin areas with mostly dirt. I have never tried this experiment and will let yall know how it goes. I figure by the end of Turkey season I should see some results or see the failure.

With a wet spring/summer you *might* see some results. Clover this far south is usually fall planted to allow it to develop a root system before our heat and dry weather takes a toll on it.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Frost seeding in the south is a risky thing.

Wheat and sunflower seeds work this time of year. Turkeys will thank you….. Sit still they’ll get real close.

I figured it was a gamble but if any clover comes up it will help our plots. They were planted too early, drought hurt them bad, and then with the big freeze we had they are almost non existent. If I wasted $35 so be it.

I have not had very good luck planting clover in the spring.

I don't try to plant clover in the spring anymore. It really needs the winter to develop a root system to carry it through the dry months. Durana is amazing, it will take over a field if you plant it. I have it on a couple fields and its filled in bare spots that just go to much direct sunlight to consistenly grow anything. It's like bermuda grass. It just keeps spreading. It starts off slow though.
