Here's my mother's homemade recipe.its not exactly from scratch but it's very good and very fresh tasting compared to store bought jarred stuff.
1 lb ground chuck
2 16oz cans of stewed tomatoes
2 8oz cans tomatoe sauce
1 onion chopped
1/2 bell pepper
2 tablespoons of sugar.i don't like sugar in my food but it works here
Garlic salt or powder
A little salt and pepper
Brown onion and bell pepper in a tablespoon of butter then set aside and brown meat in same skillet then drain fat and mix ingredients and simmer for 1 - 1 1/2 hours.
Pretty dang good and easy.
Mayonnaise based cole slaw goes really good with it along with rolls.
Try it y'all let me know

I’ve posted this before but use bone in pork chops for your meat in the sauce and cook it 8 hours in the crock. Also for your meatballs add raisins. Sounds weird and I don’t like raisins but it’s good. When I posted this a good while back everyone was in disbelief until they started googling it. I don’t know if anyone ever tried it though. We usually do one or the other, not 2 meats at the same time.

Ground chuck cooked and drained
Ragu traditional with sautéed sliced mushrooms, sliced black olives, chopped onion and bell pepper added
Boil noodles in water with beef bullion, salt, pepper and butter added
French bread with butter, feta, parmesan and a little garlic salt before toasting

Classico Tomato& Basil sauce has always been my go to store bought sauce. Brown meat and drain. Sauté finely chopped onions and garlic in olive oil with red pepper flakes. Add meat and sauce. I like to add about a tablespoon of sugar also.

Just before serving it also add fresh basil from my herb garden. Fresh herbs make a big difference.

In our house. . .If you have to use sauce from a jar then it has to be Classico or Bertolli.

Side note: the Bertolli Alfredo Sauce in a jar is outstanding. Add some no yolk noodles and blackened chicken or shrimp for a really quick, gourmet quality meal at a discount price.

I've tried several of the far more expensive sauces when on sale at Publix, but none have been any better than Classico IMO.

I never had homemade sauce until I got married. I can eat premade, but no comparison. Now mac n cheese is a different story. I cant believe any one makes the effort to make homemade mac n cheese when you can buy blue box kraft or velveeta. Sorry for the tangent.
