I know this has been asked 10000000 times. Where is the closest place to hunt hogs relative to Huntsville? Am I gonna be going south of Birmingham?

Never been, never even seen a wild hog. But want to shoot one for the meat for a little project I've been working on.

I haven't been in a while, but Bankhead was loaded with them last time I was there. You can rifle hunt them year round off the WMA.

Numbers in Bankhead don’t seem to be what they used to be, IMHO. FWIW, I don’t mess with the WMA and their rules anymore.

They’re thickest in the Sipsey Wilderness and they only have special seasons for gun.

There’s some good national forest land in Lawrence County (still Bankhead) that you can year round hunt them. Take 36 across 157 and turn left at Speake school. You’ll follow that county road up the mountain and that stretch of forest on your right always holds hogs.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I hike and backpack Sipsey a lot, I always see sign on the 206 and 209 trails. I have seen and heard more pigs while on the 206 trail. I’m not sure what areas you can hunt, I haven’t checked it out myself.

Curious what do you guys kill pigs with? The WMA has stupid rules and they can only be killed with weapons and ammo legal for the hunt? So #4 turkey load, would that kill them? And from what distance have you been successful?
I seen two last Saturday, 20 and 35 yards

Illegal or I didn’t see where 22lr was legal for turkey?

4’s will kill small hogs up close but you have to get lucky on one with any size. Bow hunting is leagal for turkey so that’s an option. If bow hunting doesn’t work for you then I suggest either waiting till you have a better option for weapon or finding some private property to hunt.

My opinion as well. They piss and moan about hogs but really don’t want the hunters that pay most of the bills to get in the way of their grant gravy train for hog eradication. Another reason is just plain old lazy enforcement.

They absolutely don’t want any help. I’m pretty sure it’s a money thing myself. The hog guy at Black Warrior pretty much said “they’re in the woods”when we asked him where to start looking for them. Now Bankhead ranger station was much more help. We still didn’t find pigs there, yet.

If you have a boat, the Corp of Engineers Land on the Tombigbee between Gainesville and Boligee. I painted those property lines and those spoil areas are infested with hogs.
