Do you see a better result with it? I have heard of some other items such as dish soap to get the same effect. Thoughts?

Using a surfactant does aid in getting a better kill. A lot of the glyphosphate (generic roundup) has a surfactant already in it. Check the labels.

I use dish soap but not real sure if it helps a whole lot. Seems to kill just as good when I don't use it. I do see a quicker kill in tall weeds and briars I think.

I add it, everytime I spray Roundup. Whether generic or not. We've used Roundup Ultramax for the past 2 years, not because the generics aren't good, but because we could buy the Roundup in drums instead of having to fool with 2.5 gallon jugs. Ultramax definitely has surfactant in it, but I add some anyway. Surfactant is CHEAP insurance.

For you guys that use dishwashing soap, you can buy Ag grade surfactant in as small as a gallon, I know for sure. You may can even get smaller containers than that. Surfactant is much, much cheaper per ounce than soap.

And when burning deer plots I only use a quart of gly per acre and get good results. If I come to a really bad patch of weeds, I slow down and put out extra chemical on that area. >>>>For you guys that use dishwashing soap, you can buy Ag grade surfactant in as small as a gallon, I know for sure. I use Crop Oil with my Clethodim on my clover. I reckon I could use it with my roundup.

I really can't say that I can tell a difference between results of crop oil vs. surfactant, but others who ought to know say crop oil is better for many herbicides. Two questions nobody has ever answered for me - could there be any benefit to using both? Any harm?

I add about 8 oz. I do not measure it though, I just pour what I think is a cup into the tank on a 25 gallon 4 wheeler sprayer. Wait until the tank is 3/4 full to add the surfactant.

Two questions nobody has ever answered for me - could there be any benefit to using both? Any harm? Steve, COC is generally used with the grass herbicides. In a nutshell, COC help herbicides stick better while NIS helps spread the droplets on the leaf. Many crop oils can have 10-20% surfactant included. So to answer your question, it won't matter and in some cases will help. Surfactants are generally added at 0.25% v/v and crop oils at 1%.

I guess I need to check the label on my crop oil and see; I think what I bought is called Prime Oil. Dr. Youngblood from Selma is a long-time chufa grower and says he is convinced he gets better results with 2,4-DB using crop oil instead of surfactant, so I started using it any time I use that herbicide. I also use crop oil with Clethodim. For anything else, I use Top Surf. I've been using a pint of either in 25 gallons; looks like that is more Top Surf than necessary and not enough crop oil? I sprayed some deer patches Saturday and added about a cup of Top Surf to the gly. The gly I was using is supposed to have surfactant in it, but I don't trust the cheap gly that I buy to have as much as it should. It probably isn't necessary, but a cup of surfactant is cheap insurance.
