Had a pretty lazy afternoon yesterday and found myself watching tracking dog videos. James Holler and Shane Simpson specifically. I’m amazed at some of the tracks. Having never watched a dog work, when it all comes together and they find one, it’s pretty special for both the tracker and hunter both.

All you tracking guys, I also bet you’re in pretty good shape by end of season! My hats off to y’all.

You should watch my crazy lab track one. She runs 90 miles an hr wide arse open til she finds the deer, spends about 5 seconds on the deer then she comes back to me and wants to play. I can tell when she has found it but have no clue how to get her to stay once it is found

Once Raven finds them she comes back a gets me and keeps doing it as I follow her to the deer. It’s easy to find her. She sounds like she’s trying to tear the deer to pieces and most times dragging it further down hill instead of up hill where it needs to go. One of our guys got her a green led lighted collar so we can se her in the woods at night.

This is what mine does as well. Comes to get me then I tell her go get on the deer she will go back but until she can see me coming she will not stay on the deer. Once I am in sight she will stay on it til I get there.

My old lab did that. I think it’s because they love you more than the deer and they just want your approval. Every dog that I’ve ever been around that stays with the deer loves it as much or more than the person

Labs are natural retrievers. Running back to you is hard wired in their brain.

My hound mutt always thinks we are playing tug of war when I start dragging lol.
