Is it a Benjamin? If so it's built on the same platform as one of my pellet guns. If it's anything like my pellet gun, it's a tack driver.

It's also only legal during gun deer season. It's considered an airgun even though it shoots an arrow. It also requires a special pump to refill it or it can be refilled with a scuba tank. One 3000 lb charge last about 10-12 good shots. It takes about 200 pumps with the hand pump to refill it from 1000 lb back up to 3000 lbs. And let me tell you, that is one hell of an arm workout. I could only pump it about 25 times and then stop and rest. The scuba tank is the way to go if you have somewhere to get it refilled.

Also do not fire it inside the house without an arrow on it. It will terrify the cats and scare and piss your wife off at the same time. Don't ask me how I know.

The one I shot was powered by a big C02 canister located in the forearm. Had an AR style stock
Bolts were hollow and slid down over a tube. Said it gets around 25-30 shots from one can. He said it was legal during bow season.

I've looked at the PCP air bows but never really considered buying one. I have not ever looked at a CO2 powered one. I doubt they're very powerful or at least, that's the way it is with air rifles. The precharged pneumatic (PCP) are what I was asking about and what sluggun is referring to.

The Benjamin air bow shoots arrows at 450 fps.

Shot one from Umarex back in September. It's the one charged with the scuba tank. Good for a couple dozen shots. Has more than enough power to kill deer and run arras through them, hogs or other critters.

I wouldn't shoot at a deer if I had just five or fewer shots in the tank, though, as the arrow drop and reduced energy would not IMO be enough. However, that's based on just shooting one for an hour or so and I would do more in-depth analysis before a final say. There might well be enough KE in the final shots to be lethal. The first dozen or so, however, would definitely work.

Very quiet. Bowhunters yammered and gnashed teeth about the crossbow being a "tool of the poacher" and all that. But imo these airbows would be legit for poaching. Lightweight, streamlined, very quiet. You could do some damage at night with one.

I can get a medical card now, I don't care if they go back to them only being legal by exception. LOL

Out of curiosity , how many people do you know that hunted with a x bow back in the day when you must have a physical issue to hunt with one? I only met one fella back in the late 80’s. I’m sure there were more but I never seen them out.

They were required for crossbows in Virginia when I was growing up. My dad had one due to getting hit by a car when he was younger. Only person I know that legit had one though.

My buddy Emmett had one due to a bout with throat cancer.

grundan, I never knew anyone who had a medical exemption to hunt with a crossbow.

The price point Umarex hit vs the "air bow" by Crossman / Benjamin was impressive as well.

You're comparing apples to oranges. The Benjamin is powerful and the Umarex is a pea shooter.
