Got drawn for Unit 2, January 14-15.

Really hoping we get a ton of rain between now and then.

I'd love to talk to anybody who has been there before, any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I hunted zone 2 that same weekend last year, shoot me a PM. I’ll be in zone 3 December 7-8 this year, hoping for rain as well.

Ha! You boys gonna waste a drive. It ain’t rained a thimble full here. That place requires a lot of rain in order to have ANY water. I’ve hunted every zone on the place spanning every year it’s been available and this year I highly doubt it’ll have any water unless something changes. I hunted last year the second week of January and it barely had water then. It froze over bad that day and their were zero ducks.

Hevi is spot on. Place is a joke unless we’ve had stupid amounts of rain. I was told last year they were “going to start looking at different options to manually get water on the area in the future.” I got drawn last year for mid December and there was zero water. Had I guess probably about as many “preference points” as you could have. Was told I would retain my points since there was no water. When I registered this year I’d lost every one of them SOB’s for accepting the hunt last year.

Had a buddy apply and get drawn for uchee creek this year. Looking at the map I guess the northern end of the SOA may have some bottoms that flood when we’ve had a pile of rain? Even with the recent rain we’ve had I’m guessing that place will be a joke too and he’ll be wasting his time unless we get a pile of rain in the next month, but maybe I’m wrong.

Yea I can promise it’ll be dry this season. Places that I have never seen go dry are dry, so I know that place is. Plus we have very minimal amount of birds this year. It’ll be a diver year IF we get any divers.

I’ve been monitoring since I’ll be in unit 3 on 12/17. There has been 6.5” of rain dropped on the SOA over the last 7 days not including the rain this AM, and it’s supposed to rain another inch over the next 3 days, and forecasted rain for 3-4 days next week. .

You will have water. All my impoundment areas are completely full with water running over the spillways. Some were completely dry 2 weeks ago, some were partially pumped up but not to full pool level

It’ll have water now, maybe too much water.

We hunted #3 this weekend, there’s plenty of water on all units. We had some tougher shots Saturday but Sunday morning we were able to get setup where the ducks were the day before and had a pretty good hunt! One guy from another area killed a gorgeous black duck the first morning, I think there was a wide variety of ducks killed over the weekend, and the biologist told me earlier today that he has started to see more black ducks and some pintails, the future hunts should be good!
