Generally, how do folks hunts them? Primarily walking and scaring them up or is there any pass shooting? If anyone has any info on hunting them, especially in the mobile delta I’m all ears. There is a spot nearby they have been using that I might try this month.

Use pointing dogs in the woods for WoodCock. VERY Shallow moist soil----pastures/marsh for Snipe....just walk them up.

These could possibly be snipe. I found them on a small inland marsh island where there are no trees.

Also, when you scare them up they give of one loud squawk when they fly off.

Two different habitats. Bet you’re seeing snipe they have a white belly. Woodcock have a yelloish orange belly and like young scrub like trees

Ive seen a few woodcock, but so few I'd hate to shoot one. They are really cool looking birds.

Naw they’re fun to hunt if you can find them. They’re cool little birds and here is some really good info

https://www.outdooralabama.com/articles/woodcock-monitoring-program-tracks-migration-routes

Some years they nest here and some years they do not. A study was done back in the 80s with regards to that. Seems it was temperature dependent. The one in the burn was ona Reid a place last March. More than likely nesting close by.

We used to hunt woodcock while hunting grouse in WI. I used to kill a bunch in the 80s on Seven-Mile Island WMA using a weimer in the thickets.

Here’s a woodcock a few weeks ago on the road leaving the farm. Pine thicket on both sides but they land on roads at dark. This was past sunset a few minutes

Snipe you just walk 'em up or let your dog flush them. You'll hear them when they get up. If you don't shoot or miss, sit tight, they will circle back from where they flushed half the time. A lot of good memories hunting them:

We found the honey hole at the local Wildlife Management Area. If we didn't get drawn to hunt ducks, we're go clean up on Snipe.

P.S. I miss that damn dog like crazy. Think about you every day Jake.
