I'm curious if anyone knows of any decent private bass fishing lake clubs in the Birmingham areas that are open to new membership. I recently sold a client's farm that I had access to fish on and am looking for something in the area to fish a few times a month at most to take my young son to. I know there are several invite-only type clubs in the area but figure I would ask around. I'd even be open to an informal agreement/payment type plan on someone's private lake/pond. Thanks in advance.

Closest I know of would be Foster Farms in Marion, but its an hour plus drive depending on what part of Bham you are coming from. Unfortunately you just missed the registration for this years members ship. These are farm ponds, but i think there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 ponds/lakes of various sizes. Very affordable and there are trophy bass in them along with bass, brim, and crappie. There is also Donovan lakes in Marion, but i don't know much about them other than its more expensive, but i think its set up for fishing a little better as in piers, boat ramps, etc.

I overheard a person talking about a club near Oneonta; but did not catch the name.
You can always rent a boat at Lake Purdy.

I forgot about Lake Heather. Is the fishing decent there? Looks like it's $375 per year for fishing privileges, which seems reasonable.

Heather used to have some serious FL strain studs. Teen type fish. Someone put spots in there years ago and they’ve crossed With the Florida’s. Lots of solid fish and some magnum spots but IMO, the really big fish just are not there anymore. Plenty of 3-7 pound fish. Deep water and lots of shad in there. Usually a wait list to get on the list to get a permit. May be wrong but I think it’s limited to like 200 permits a year.

A lot of the lakes in that area near the Cahaba have a strong natural spot population

Lake George, but I don't have any membership info. There used to be a pretty good waiting list. Off Floyd Bradford Road between Irondale and Moody.

I am a member of a private lake in Calera. Not sure if any spots are open or not, but send me a PM and I'll give you the owners name and contact. It's $700 a year and I catch ALOT of 4-6lb bass. It's managed by Southeastern pond management

Heathers spots came from Lay lake

Many years ago Heather had some giant largemouths and I have caught some big cats out of it too. It is a pretty deep lake. Had a wild otter population too which is unusual for the area.

I used to live in the apartments on lake Heather and fished it some. Snorkeled out around the island and it had some deep standing timber and saw some true monster bass in there. Water was clear enough you could see the suspended hog bass.

Bass club buddy of mine taught me how to punch grass out on Lake Heather.
