The pan around at the end told me all I needed. That’s Jupiter inlet, FL. I’ve been in and out of there a few times and fished the sea wall plenty when I was in college. That inlet is notorious for sporty to dangerous swells and surf.

I used to fish Sebastian Inlet a lot and it got sporty too.Outgoing tide and a good e to ne breeze and it would pile up quite a wall of water. Better make sure your engine was reliable and you were paying attention at the end of the drift.

I think I’d just kept going straight on out

I know driving a bass boat doesn't compare but why not turn and run in the trough until you get out of the breakers? It didn't look like the waves were breaking like that further down

We will burn that bridge when we get there

Even turning around like that would have been fine if he had kept going, but he turned and then slowed way down. Clearly hadn't ever spent much time around water.

Yep. He let the wave catch up to him.

Capt clearly was unfamiliar with that inlet. It has a well documented and persistent bar which extends from the north jetty. Anything other than S or W winds and seas are going to stack up right there. You clear the S jetty and head SE for 1/4 mile and you’ll find much smoother seas. I’ve seen guys fall off of upper decks on sport fishers in that pass coming in with a following sea hitting a falling tide. It’s a washing machine.
