It was shot on the edge of a bunch of cow pastures.......He had already tracked it for hundreds of yards across the pastures.....We picked up the track where he lost it and took it several hundred more yards into some timber where the track went cold. I just dont think it was hit very well

Yeah, it had bedded down just off the edge of one of the pastures and the farmer came through bush hogging and likely jumped him. The hunter also told me that he had watched the buck after the shot walk back across the pasture with the other ones it was with and it had a limp. It just didn’t sound like he was fatally hit the way he described it. It was a dang good buck though....probably 130+

We were able to recover one today…….The buck was shot early this morning. From the sounds of everything we thought it was going to be a typical shoulder shot. The arrow fell out at about 75 yards and there was very minimal blood on the ground. When we started tracking around noon things didn’t begin to look any better either. Otis was struggling to figure out which way the buck had gone from where they lost blood. We probably stood in the same spot for 15 minutes or more while he circled around trying to sort it out.

Finally he took the track over a ridge top where we located another decent spot of blood. From that point he followed it across a creek bottom and to the next ridge over. He was about 50 yards ahead of us when I saw him start really picking up speed on the GPS……I told the hunters that I thought we had jumped him......About the time Otis had put 150 yards of separation between us, I head him start barking up ahead. This buck was ready to give it up immediately and just layed back down while we walked up to finish him off.

This is the entry hole. The hunter was using some kind of large expandable broadhead. It actually started poking through the opposite side behind the shoulder maybe 6 inches lower than the entry but he didn’t get a complete pass through. The buck was shot at about 15 yards from a lock on that was probably 20-25 ft up. I think due to the steep angle of the shot that the hunter may have only got one lung possibly…..not sure. It crazy that this one was still alive.

Headed out to go track one shot this morning......Hunter said the buck wheeled as he let the arrow go.....The entry was high on the shoulder and the exit was out his neck. Said he saw the arrow sticking out both sides. Lots of blood for a couple hundred yards and then nothing. .....We'll see what happens......

To be continued...........

No recovery on this one.......I feel like the hunter probably just hit the deer high and got nothing more than a hard flesh wound......We tracked it another couple hundred yards past where they had lost blood where we jumped the deer still good and lively. He had quit bleeding by this point and it was real tough for Otis to even track to him. He didnt even let us get up on him before he jumped and Otis quickly came back to me giving me the signal that this one was ok.......

Jumped one earlier that had been shot 17hrs earlier. He crossed a 4 lane hwy. Luckily it didn't cause a wreck, scared me for a minute. I called the dogs off but he was headed that way and nothing I could do.

Went on a 27hr old liver shot track. The deer went about a mile from where he was shot. Crossed a few small creeks, swamps and a cotton field that had been picked after the deer ran across it. The dogs had to work it slow but went straight to him.url=https://postimg.cc/9rxKyhsG][Linked Image][/url]
