Live snake are used for scent.

I would want them to train mine to find and kill snakes not avoid them.

Have you looked into this avoidance training or found someone in the southeast area that trains dogs for this? Not sure how my pups would work on a leash; they have been on a leash a few times but not leashed trained. They are very friendly dogs and never meets a stranger; they love people and love to interact with anyone, especially kids. Both are about 9 month old catahoula cur pups.

Just curious if obedience training would be required prior to the snake avoidance. The pups are smart and listen to me pretty good by voice, whistle and pointing; but will loose attention pretty quick if another dog or people show up while out and about.

Not sure how good these people are, but they'll be in Mobile next Saturday, and it's only $60. This is something any competent dog trainer should be able to do, so you may be able to ask one who doesn't specifically advertise it.
