I'm headed down to 30A next week for or the fourth and I want to try fishing some of the dune lakes from kayak. Any of yall done that before? Are any of them any better than others? Are there enough fish to even fool with it? Any advice would be appreciated

I’ve never personally fished it, but know people that have fished the lake at Grayton. There’s a ramp right down from the red bar you could put in at. Parking could be an issue. Light to medium tackle, throw live shrimp. There may be some more secluded lakes through there with inlets to the beach that might be better. I’ve wanted to try it myself. I would fish the grass flats and any structure. Watch out for alligators.

Man, I hope you get some good answers here. We stay near Lake Jackson every time we go down there. Always wanted to fish it. I did have a guy tell me that he'd catch trout or ladyfish early in the morning on a spook type bait. Call a local tackle trap and see what they say.

I fished lake Powell one time five years ago and caught a few trout , mostly around the first two bridge pilings coming from the side of lake closest to destin. On e of them was my personal best , 27 1/2 inches.

My folks had a Cottage they built in 1951.....in Inlet Beach about a mile from Lake Powell. As a kid I fished Lake Powell in the late 60's and 70's. The County kept an old Dragline out at the Inlet on the Gulf (Phillips Inlet) in order to keep the pass open for small boats to go in/out. It was noted as one of THE BEST places to go catch Trout....and WE DID many times. I've seen Flounder come out of there 5 to 6 pounds many times. But....as all things change....the environmental folks said you can't do that dredging anymore (sometime in the 80's) and the fishing slowly began to decline. Much of the bottom grass died and so did the shrimp and baitfish. Trout,Redfish and Flounder are are still in there but just not the numbers. You can actually go to the East end and Catch Bass.

Last time I was there I wade fished eastern lake and killed it the 2 mornings I fished. Caught trout, redfish, and mangrove snapper. I caught pilchards with my cast net in the surf and brought them over to the lake, and fished them under a cork, and free lined. There were several other fishermen out there fishing with artificial and finger mullet that weren’t getting bit. Pilchards were the key to my success.

My grandparents lived in Big Redfish lake my entire life. Fishing used to to really good catching redfish and mangroves. Several years ago the lake quit “opening up” draining into the gulf. Water got very fresh and killed a ton of fish. Haven’t seen a mullet jump in that lake in 10 years

Little Redfish lake actually had a lot of bass in it. Very dark color to them from the tea colored water. Used to west them out on an orange rattle trap.

Our house was right on Lake Powell in Inlet Beach. Our paths probably crossed at some time.

My wife grew up going to Carillon Beach. We've taken the kids there for over 20 years. I've never fished because I knew I'd be gone doing that all day. So, I intentionally didn't go so I could spend time with the wife and kids. Now that they are older and gone, I'd like to fish there some.
