I read this article this morning and thought it contained some educational information along with some precautions to put into play for those of us that feed. I had started being mindful of aflatoxins over the last few years especially during the summer. This article was a good reminder to be careful when feeding, especially in our climate. https://deerassociation.com/aflatox...medium=email&utm_campaign=06-02-2022

Thanks for posting, everyone needs to be aware of this. I learned about it several years ago and have been telling folks to beware if they feed. Some people are ignorant or don’t believe it and think feeding turkeys is helping them, but in my opinion does way more harm than good. I didn't read it I don't now but when I had a lot of turkeys I fed oats during late spring , till early spring . I never fed during season never fed them corn . I don't think oats is as bad as corn Any corn was nearly all if not all was ate by the deer. You buy the corn local grown you know more about the rain fall it had

I’ve seen it In corn after it’s gotten wet in the bag. Nasty stuff. Looks just like the picture in the article. It don’t take long for the whole bag to be contaminated.

Bagged corn sold as wildlife feed has already failed the minimum aflatoxin allowance. Aflatoxin contaminated corn is turned away from whiskey to animal feed mills. It is then bagged as wildlife feed. That’s how it works. Piling it up just makes it worse, I’d bet aflatoxins in drier climates would lessen the effects.

I’m sure it is. Every load my BIL delivers to a feed mill is tested. He has to wait about an hour or so and then offloads. He’s had to take several loads elsewhere as the mill wouldn’t take it. He’d have to wait for them to find another mill that would and head that way.
The Walmart deer corn was bought at a discount and sold since there as no other market for it. Maybe that has changed. Maybe not.
