Baldwin County AL
Hello, I'm moving to Baldwin county Alabama here this summer and looking for some places to hunt in the upcoming season. I know about Lillian swamp and the Delta tract. I am looking for recommendations as to which one provides the best hunting experience with deer.
My other question is if there are any hunting clubs that allow a lease to hunt their land. I am used to PA hunting where you can procure hunting rights through a friendly Farmer to allow access without paying but upon research that is not the case in Alabama. Essentially I'm looking for land lease that may be close to Baldwin county with a group of people that would be interested in showing me the AL hunting ways. (we don't have snakes, spiders, and alligators like Y'all do)

Welcome to the South.

I’m going to pm you my phone number. Would be glad to talk to you and give you the run down on how stuff works down this way.

My name is Jonathan.

Short answer, yes there are established leases in the area. Making sure you have realistic expectations will help curb disappointments and irritation. There are some good leases, then there are some bad leases, and there’s some in between.

The old adage “you get what you pay for” has never rung truer than when it comes to hunting leases. If you are going to join a quality lease in this area, the first requirement is you better know the right people and be related to them as kin or through business. The second requirement is get ready to fork out some $$$$ for less than spectacular deer rack potential.

The really good clubs don’t do a lot of advertising, and are typically invite only.

Thank you.
I officially move middle of June and couldn't be more excited. I know the hunting will be so different. I'm used to going up in the mountains and seeing massive 8 points with permission to hunt from pretty much anyone. People in PA rarely have an issue with giving permission as long as you are respectful. I know i'll have to pay to join a group but it will take a bit before I fully feel comfortable actually paying to hunt.
Have you ever hunted any of the public land? it looks like the delta tract is mostly accessible by boat so that may not work for me unless I can kayak to it. I will definitely contact you when I get down there to learn a little more.

PM me when you move down, I’d like to invite you to church. I can probably help you kill a deer as well.

Thank you, we actually found an amazing church when we were down in February interviewing for my job. The principal at the school I am going to work for told us about CityHope which we really enjoyed. An help getting a feeling for the land would be greatly appreciated. I'm used to coming across Bears in the woods 2 times my size but for some reason I'm worried about the Aligators and snake's. I'm used to going out and finding a spot by myself in at 4am but without knowing the area this has me a little nervous.

Where are you moving to in Baldwin County? Location may determine which direction you want to look for hunting opportunities.

Turkeyjoe i am at South Baldwin center for technology teaching automotive technology.
270wsm i am in summerdale. I have walked the Lillian Swamp complex and that seems like a decent pace to do some archery hunting.

Hopefully the link works. It is an interactive map that shows state lands. I think it may be helpful.

Welcome to Alabama and Baldwin county. Look up the Corps of Enginner’s propertiesThey have some really nice tracts along the river in Clarke county. Nice camp sites also . The permits were free last we hunted them. Jackson al has the Old Lock property which will require a boat . You can paddle across to the Island to hunt really nice hardwoods easily. Great fishing there also. They also have a beautiful property further up next to Claiborne Lock and damn along the river outside of Grove Hill. Both places have nice camping sites.
We’ve hunted both with good success. Expect to see others on weekends but not so much during the week. Utilize hunters orange for safety and good luck.

There is a club in Stockton that is needing two members 2461 acres $1,500/year. 6 pt or better Stalk hunting only. 251-490-0659. I'm not a member of it although, I have hunted there as a guest a few times. Seems like a pretty decent place.

I moved to Baldwin county a year ago. Was able to find a club in Washington county this year and a few clubs in the area and got on wait list for next year. There’s a couple leasing pages on Facebook they post club openings in. Perdio is a nice place to hunt the deer are smart and you have to hunt hard. I managed to kill 2 does and a small buck off it last year during bow season. Refuse to go during rifle it gets hammered hard the few rifle days they have.

I have been hunting Perdido all of bow season. It's not bad. there are a lot of does which i have had the opportunity to take just wasn't feeling like tracking a doe in the evening during the week. I have a couple bucks on camera but unfortunately they are only moving at night. I am going to continue archery during rifle season there even though it will most likely be a bust. i do think that some pressure would help as i think bucks are held up in the thicks.
I tried hunting the upper delta last week but it's really hard to read the movement in the swamps.

For the Upper Delta, any hunting after first part of December is a gift. Watch the river stages and know they close the gate after Claiborne hits 21 feet(check on specific number).
