Evinrude is out of businesd but say they have the parts to service and warranty engines forever basically. Buddy I know with etec just blew it up and got a brand new one as his warranty with 10 more years of warranty. I may be wrong, but I understood it is that they only guarantee parts available until the last warranty runs out. After that, you're out of luck.

I went back and researched some. They don't have a time limit on guaranteed parts. I thought they did. I just don't see how they will keep producing parts. They discontinued FICHT parts almost as soon as they took over. Now they even have Mercury supplying the motors for the boats brands that BRP owns. It's just a matter of time. For the record, I liked the ETec engines.

Practically speaking, I'd rather have the Ranger than the Legend, but there's zero way I'd buy the Evinrude. No real opinions about the Legend, but I will say that my niece's boyfriend worked as a rigger at Wedowee Marine for a couple of years, and he said that when you get underneath the decks of a Legend (into the bare hull), it's like they had a tin can of mixed bolts and screws to assemble it at the factory. He said there never was any real problems with them, but he could never get past how "homemade" it looked with all those mixed screws and fasteners. I do worry that brands like Legend are a niche brand, and I'm gonna have more trouble reselling it. May not be true, it's just my perception. But I'll say this also (as someone who's also looking for a used boat).... I know people have differing opinions, but I'd never buy a boat with 500 hours either. I am blown away at the hours on boats nowadays. Everybody thinks they're a pro, $10,000 worth of graphs and they're gonna idle for 5 hours a trip "finding fish before they make a cast". I love these listings: "2020 Ranger Z520, 485 hours (mostly at idle speed)" Oh yeah, because those hours don't count

There's a huge difference in 400 idle hours and 400 WOT hours. I wouldn't be afraid of an engine up to 1000 hours. I don't buy them because of resale value, but I'm not afraid of them. Rangers are good boats that hold their value and probably always will. However, they were bought out by bass pro. If I was buying anything newer than a 2016 ish, it would be Skeeter, Phoenix, or Bass Cat. New boats, I would definitely look at Caymas.

I really don't want a chine walking boat, it's the reason I'm afraid to buy a Phoenix.

When it warms up a little I’m going for a ride.
