Anyone ever used one for deer? The streams are dried up here and the only water is in ponds or a mile or so at the creek. The activity on my summer plots has dropped a considerable amount in the past week, I'm guessing due to lack of a good water source in cover. I have a small 125 gallon stock tank I had thought about putting in the edge of the woods and filling once or twice a week, depending on how much evaporates and how much is used. Getting water to it won't be a problem.

Use it and put a camera on it. Could get a good idea what you have. It may take them time to find it unless you put it near a food plot.

Thomas Jefferson. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

If being a dumbass was fatal some of you would be on your death bed!

You would be amazed at the water a deer will get from the plants they are eating plus from the dew in the mornings

I had much rather be tried by twelve than carried to my grave by six!!!!

True although when it's this dry, plants have MUCH less water in them. Especially non woody plants. Take the difference between grass and hay. Same thing, different forms. That's an extreme example, but you get the idea. All animlals also need more water during hot weather.

Makes alot of sense to me seeing as how everything here is dying from lack of water and the heat. Give em' a drink and see what happens.

I'm really interested in seeing how well it's used if you decide to do it.

We supplement everything else for the herds, why not water when they need it?

Saw it on Dr. Deer the other night. Put a float device in it like a cattle trough would have. There's tracks down by my spring

I've got one maybe 70 yards from the front door, I see deer at it all hours of the day.

Fur, if you will drop by the local Co-Op they will probably give you some of the 30 gallon plastic drums they have sprayed fields with. I usually get about 15-20 a year for friends and you could cut these in half and use them for a trough. It would be cheap and when you get rain again, they would make great feed troughs for the cows, etc. Hope that helps. They would also be very easy to handle as they only weigh about 10 lbs. or less.

I have a 150 gallon trough that I will be putting out tomorrow. There is no source of piped water within a 1/4 mile of where I will be putting it. I will haul water to it as needed in a 300 gallon "tote." I'll put a camera on it and post up what shows up, if anything shows up.

Good idea on putting something in the tank for anything that falls in to use to get out. A dead coon in the tank would make a mess. Guess I could put some cinder blocks in it.

If you had a water trough next to your food plot, could a gung-ho game warden write you a ticket for hunting next to an unnatural food source?

Deer drink from the cow troughs all day here. Place a mineral feeder next to water and they'll wear it out.

Put your troughs in the shade so the water won't get too hot from sunshine.
