Trimmed my pear only feel off ladder on time I believe a homeowner should get a pair of 36in lopping shears, and prune with them, standing on the ground. This would keep most of your fruit low enough to pick by hand or using a small step ladder. Make your fruit trees grow out instead of up. I use 36" corona loppers. Theyre about $60/set. Aluminum handles. Really good pruners. Ive been pruning alot of peach trees for alot of years and these are the best ive used yet. I can get three years or so out of a set. They will cut up to 2 inch green peach limbs, a little smaller if theyre dead and dry. I bought a set of heavy duty loppers the other day. Theyre supposed to cut 3" limbs. They will do it but theyre really heavy and it takes a good bit of strength to cut a limb that size. You wouldnt want to do it all day.
