I am in the process of building a round drop trap and i am stuck on what the release actuator should be . I have the winch mounted and the cables run that crank the thing up but i can’t for the life of me come up with a good setup on how to release this thing. Does anyone on here use a drop trap and if so is it possible to get some pics of the release setup ? I have tried a few different setups but come up failing .
Thanks in advance

I can possibly get a pic in a day or two. Don't own one but passed by one set up today.

12 volt lock solenoid could be used in a hillbilly version.

I used a root trigger when I was trapping hogs. It did a really good job at holding the door up after getting the angles right and length of cable. I was using paracord but it had to much stretch so I used the cable instead.

Spectra cord like the synthetic winch ropes but smaller. Amazon has it.

I have cables set up but its the part that the cables connect to and the release that i’m having trouble with .i tried a car door latch but the trap is so heavy that it wont release right and hangs up . I can keep it on the winch and use a stick or similar but it falls to slow . I have a seperate set of cables that is for the release .
I got with my local NRCS guy to see if anyone local uses a drop trap . He’s looking into it for me . I will drive a good bit to be able to see one if anyone knows of one .
Thanks for ya’lls help

Can you take some lumber and build a frame that will hold a sheet of plywood? Then take a 2x4 and place under plywood for the entrance height, drive a eye screw in the top of the plywood and run cable or cord through it and place two rebar at an angle. Then take a stick or piece of wood and tie your cable or string to it and place behind rebar off the ground. remove 2x4 from under plywood and door should be set.

Thanks again for everyones input

I’d love to see some pictures and video of it in action. Sounds pretty interesting

Good deal!!

What service did you use for the reolink?
What did it cost?

I bought a few and still need to get the sims cards.

Update
Finally bought a GSM reciever on AT&T
And a Reolink Go self contained camera on Verizon
Drops with a text or call , Put it in service last week on a friends place
And it works great !! Not perfect but great! Since i have to toggle between two apps
But for the money savings over a production built camera system it is great.
Had 3 75lbers come in and get comfortable in the corn pile and dropped it!!!
Got em !!!
It sure was worth the time it took to get it figured out thanks to Kbush for sending me pics
Of the release!!!
If someone can post a few pics i would be thankful
I have a few farmers around here that want me to build them one so we will see where that leads
Thanks to all who chimed in
