You can get lucky every now and then to get a full plumed male at the tail end of the season. More so in LA than here.
If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

The prettiest plumed ones are usually killed during turkey season
The best one I’ve seen during season were in the MS delta mid January during the warm winters of the 90s

Yes, feather changes in winter. Have you ever seen a drake wood duck in august? You probably have, but didn’t realize you did. I have, but you can still at least tell the difference between a drake and hen woodie. With teal, I can't tell any difference.
