Going to start loading Bismuth for duck (and geese). I know basically use Mod choke for steel. For bismuth, is it fair to assume basics of lead chokes (vs more open for steel)? And yes, I know I need to pattern the guns, but looking for a general rule of thumb. Thanx

I use midrange chokes labeled for steel shot. Modified would be a good starting point for bismuth. It behaves very similar to lead shot. The harder the shot the tighter it typically patterns and the softer shot seems to respond better to more constriction. Just depends on what you’re looking for.

If I hunt the river or pits I’ll tighten it up a little bit.

what I am seeing as I do more research is basically same as lead choking. As they label waterfowl chokes nowadays - Mod close in, IM mid-range and full for long range (45 yds or so...).

I'd start IM or full and go from there.
