I realized last week that lake Mitchell is the only lake on the coosa river that I haven’t fished. Now I want to go. It looks like there are public ramps on both the west and east side of the lakes. I’ve watched a few videos and it seems like a lot of folks end up below the lay dam at some point in their trip. Do any of y’all have any advice to help my odds. I’m going to give it a shot next week. Thanks.

Don’t go below lay dam unless you have good electronics or you might regret it. Good many rocks and not very deep water in places.

I have only fished it one time in a club tournament and my partner fished it quite often. I do remember we caught everything on top water zoom toad and a white swim jig. Couldn’t tell you where all we fished though. Sorry. Sure somebody will give you better input shortly.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you do

I've fished it a few times, but haven't covered much of the lake. The Hatchet creek area is where I have fished and just a little north of where Hatchet dumps in. Caught a mixture of LM and spots. I am heavy on soft plastics, shakeyhead most often, but caught em on a spinnerbait, crankbait, and shakeyhead last trip me and my dad made. we were fishing the edge of the grass around deeper water. Water temps should be starting to drop and fishing should be getting better so I would try a variety and see what works best.

David

One the easisest place on the coosa river to catch fish. Similar to logan martin, lots of spots that bite and a few big heads frequent the shallows

Nothing at all to get up to the concrete if you know what you're doing I'll run up there wide open if they have a generator going.

Put in at Higgins ferry and fish the bluff walls with a shakeyhead and crankbait/jerkbait. Keep a spook tied on just incase you find schooling fish

Well I made the trip to Mitchell. Ended up catching several fish. I appreciate everybody’s input. If I knew how to post pictures I would. I put in at hatchet creek. A lot of the bait in the creek was suspended in the 10-15’ range in the morning just after sunrise and the creek was just kind of dead. No shad flicking on the surface and rarely any visible chasing(when I came back in the evening to put the boat on the trailer, there was a pretty significant amount of baitfish on the surface). I fished my way upriver and caught them all above the airport island. I also caught an osprey on a bone colored spook jr. That was exciting for a little while. I also spoke with some other fishermen and they were pretty helpful. All in all a great experience.

I want to mark another lake off my list. I’m trying to decide between Smith Lake and Pickwick. I may start a new thread. Thanks guys for the help.

I’m guessing the pattern on lay lake would be similar to Mitchell right now? Got a high school tournament up the this weekend. Any pointers would be appreciated
